"No matter how far you go, you can't get out of my heart.

No matter how long the shadow of the tree at dusk is, you can't leave the root of the tree."

--- Rabindranath Tagore

He is at the end of the world, but his heart is in China. The same bright moon, the same bloodline. It’s Mid-Autumn Festival again, a day for family reunions, and it’s National Day, a day for compatriots to raise glasses. The Chinese Association of Chinese and Overseas Chinese in Alberta (UCAA) and the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University led the Chinese and overseas Chinese groups from all walks of life in Greater Phoenix, including the Greater Phoenix Chinese Overseas Chinese Association, the Chinese Students and Scholars Association of Arizona State University, the Alberta Modern Chinese School, the Alberta Hope Chinese School, the "Alberta Times" newspaper and people of all ethnic groups and all walks of life enthusiastically participated in the seventh "Phoenix Night" - a series of activities for Chinese and overseas Chinese in Alberta to celebrate the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival. After careful preparation by the organizers and volunteers, all activities were arranged thoughtfully and orderly. The seventh "Phoenix Night" Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day celebrations were a complete success with everyone's active participation and full support!

At 3 pm on September 22, Arizona Chinese and overseas Chinese, as well as friends of other ethnic groups, poured into the Memorial Union of Arizona State University to celebrate the 2013 "Phoenix Night" to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. Dr. Madeline K. Spring, Director of the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, hosted the forum "Aspects of Sino-US Cooperation". Che Zhaohe, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, addressed the opening ceremony of the China-US Cultural Forum and delivered a passionate speech. In his speech, he proudly said that in the 64 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, China has created remarkable achievements in various fields of politics, economy and culture, and China's international power is of great importance and is growing day by day. He especially shared with everyone the "Chinese Dream" proposed by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The Chinese dream is the happiness of the people, the rejuvenation of the nation, and the harmony of the world. The Chinese Dream and the American Dream are like brothers and sisters, complementary and beneficial to each other. He sincerely thanked overseas Chinese students for their tremendous efforts, support and contributions to the prosperity and development of the motherland.

Mr. Matt Salmon, the U.S. Congressman representing Arizona's Fifth District, is the only U.S. Congressman who can speak Chinese fluently. Because he needed to stay in DC to participate in the Congressional discussion of the national budget that day, he sent Mr. Chuck Gray, the working director of the Fifth District, to deliver a speech titled "China, Strategic Partner or Economic Competitor" at the Sino-US Cultural Forum. Mr. Matt Salmon emphasized: On the international stage, China and the United States are both competitors and partners, interdependent, and have common world economic and security interests. In July this year, the meeting between President Obama and General Secretary Xi Jinping made gratifying progress. China is an increasingly powerful super world power. The degree of interdependence between China and the United States in all aspects of economy and security requires that China and the United States can be peaceful and friendly, work together, strengthen cooperation and dialogue, and promote world stability and economic prosperity.
