Visitors to Los Angeles broke record in 2013. Daily consumption of Chinese tourists increased by 21%, which is amazing! The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board announced on Monday that the number of tourists to Los Angeles in 2013 was 42.2 million, breaking the historical record; this number increased by 2% compared with 2012, and tourists from China increased by 21% compared with 2012. Among the tourists who came to Los Angeles in 2013, 36 million were domestic tourists in the United States and 6.2 million were overseas tourists, with Chinese tourists accounting for the largest proportion. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said that the steady growth in the number of tourists is an "economic flash point, creating more jobs for Los Angeles families, bringing considerable revenue to local businesses and government taxes, which is more beneficial to urban construction." In 2012, tourists who came to Los Angeles spent a total of 16.5 billion U.S. dollars, created 30.5 billion U.S. dollars in economic benefits, and brought 340,000 jobs. On average, each Chinese tourist spends US$1,000 per day, second only to Japanese tourists who spend US$1,731. Chinese tourists have played a strong role in promoting the economic development of Los Angeles. Los Angeles Tourism Bureau officials said their goal in 2014 is to promote the development of the city's convention and exhibition industry and expand their markets in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and China.
