A win-win situation of beauty and wisdom - the 2011 Miss Chinese Phoenix Pageant. On July 4, 2011, the 30th Miss Chinese Phoenix Pageant organized by the Chinese Federation of Greater Phoenix was held grandly in the auditorium of Arcadia High School in Phoenix. After the judges’ on-site scoring and comprehensive online voting results, No. 1 Yang Zhongting won the championship of this beauty pageant, No. 5 Chen Yiyan won the runner-up, and No. 3 Hu Qiuzi won the third place. No. 1 Yang Zhongting also won the Best Photogenic Award and Best Talent Award, No. 5 Ian Chen won the Internet Popularity Award and Miss Goodwill Award, and No. 6 Chen Shiyi won the Spiritual Encouragement Award. The results of the 2011 beauty pageant have been settled. Some people think that the results are within expectations, while others think that it is an upset. The reporter experienced the entire competition and saw a real contest between beauty and wisdom. When I saw the contestant information for the first time, I don’t remember having any special impression of No. 1. However, during the two rehearsals, when the contestants put on their competition clothes and started to officially walk on the stage, suddenly, my eyes lit up. No. 1 was calm, generous and confident, which was indeed a little different. Looking at her performance on the day of the competition, entering the top three was not unexpected at all. Yang Zhongting was born in Arizona. English is her first language. She has very strong stage performance experience, especially in piano and violin performances, and has won many professional awards. On the day of the competition, she played Schumann's "Carnival" and Rachmaninov's "Flying Bumblebee" piano music, which astonished everyone with her skill. Even people who don't understand music will be moved by the smooth music. During the swimsuit and cheongsam catwalks, her elegant steps and posture, as well as her smile and confident eyes that touched every audience, made fans hold up her big photos and cheer enthusiastically many times. No. 1 could be calm and nonchalant in front of the piano or walking on the stage. In terms of facial features, I dare not say that No. 1 is the most beautiful, but beauty pageants are a competition of comprehensive qualities. As an organizer who has organized beauty pageants many times said, standing on the stage, the audience and judges can no longer see clearly your eyes, nose, and mouth. They can only see your overall deportment and temperament, as well as the wisdom of the competition. Many people think that answering questions is a test of the wisdom of beauties. In fact, every minute on the stage is a reflection of wisdom. For example, this time's runner-up No. 5 Chen Yiyan, her specialty performance is the Chinese folk dance "Lao Bei Shao". It seems that she has no foundation in dance or vocal music, but she chose humor. During the dance, the audience could see the exchange between the trembling old man and the handsome young daughter-in-law. The humor she displayed transcended culture. Whether people knew or did not understand Chinese folk dance and Chinese folk customs, they could see from her movements the scene of the shaking old man helping his young daughter-in-law pick up the handkerchief. The audience was so happy that they completely ignored the issues of whether she had any special skills, basic skills, performance level, etc. On the contrary, an outstanding contestant who was very popular in the competition was very beautiful and had very good vocal skills, but he did not get good results. Perhaps officially because she considered that the referee was an American, she chose a very difficult English song that could be understood by the referee. But English is the player's second language after all. We imagine what it would be like for foreigners who speak Chinese very well to sing Chinese songs. I think the American judges must have understood the song, and more definitely, they understood all the shortcomings in the song. The contestants stepped into their areas of strength and exposed their weak points. If it is a Chinese song, they may not understand it, let alone whether it is good or bad, and they cannot definitely give a low score. Dance should be the most visual and expressive method on the stage. Audiences who watch the entire show will cheer for the dancing skills of the Worldbeat professional dance team brought by Director Hodgie. It should be a good learning opportunity for every contestant who uses dance to show off their talents. Why do their dances impress both Chinese and American audiences? Modern dance, street dance plus Chinese elements and Kung Fu; dance techniques add face-changing masks and dynamic fire background. The choreography is relaxed and relaxed, and the dancers have their own understanding of each movement. Each movement, look, and expression is a standard in itself, with tacit cooperation and unique characteristics. Because of their performances, the entire stage became more dreamy and gorgeous. Three of the contestants used dance to perform. No. 3 Hu Qiuzi's "Beauty Dance", No. 4 Liu Zhaoci's lyrical dance Jar of Hearts, and No. 6 Cheng Shiyi's jazz dance. No. 3 embodies the beauty and charm of traditional dance, No. 4 embodies passion, and No. 6’s jazz dance flaunts the color of youth. The beauty and wisdom on stage actually come from more creators behind the scenes. The chief director, Hodgie, is a Korean-American and has a beautiful Chinese wife. His wife was also the stage manager that night. Hodgie is very familiar with Eastern and Western cultures, so he can add many Chinese elements into the stage background design and choreography, while also complying with Western aesthetic standards. In terms of makeup for the beauties, Cindy Wang, a makeup artist from Yes, I Do Oriental Bride's makeup company, also volunteered to dress up the most beautiful Chinese beauties. Our stage not only showed the beautiful appearance, but also added the more admirable beautiful Chinese spirit. The Overseas Chinese Federation General Association awarded Mr. Yu Wenjin the "Lifetime Achievement Award for Service to the Overseas Chinese Community" and commended the Chinese female soldier Zhu Guanling who went to Iraq to serve in the army. On this stage, ranging from the entire country to the Chinese community, our volunteers and sponsors spend time and money to serve our better life. This stage belongs to us Chinese Americans, and it also reflects the kindness, beauty, wisdom, and unity of the Chinese Americans who have lived in Phoenix for decades. Let’s meet next July 4th.
