> 2 children have injured their fingers. Bicycle seats made in Taiwan have been recalled. Due to product design problems, two children's fingers were cut by the seats. This week, the U.S. federal government recalled an infant bicycle seat sold at retail stores such as REI. The voluntary recall reported by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) involves the brand TOPEAK Babyseat II distributed in Todson, Massachusetts. The CPSC reported two incidents in which children's fingers required stitches and were crushed. When lifting the armrest to take down the child, if the child's fingers are placed exactly on the hinge of the armrest, the child may be at risk of finger amputations and lacerations. While not the most serious safety threat in children's products, such problems are common and can lead to injuries in everything from strollers to baby chairs that clip onto tables. The CPSC plans to ask organizations that set voluntary standards for household products to improve stroller safety standards in the coming weeks to address the problem of strollers endangering children. The TOPEAK baby bike seat has been redesigned and the new model is shipping to stores. The recall involves 40,000 child seats sold in the United States from January 2009 to April 2012. CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the bicycle child seats, model numbers TCS2100, TCS2101 and TCS2102, and contact Todson to obtain a free hinge cover improvement tool. You can call the company at 800-250-3068 or check online at store.todson.com/safety.html.
