was suspected of being shot from outside the car

The 28-year-old Chinese female coach Monica is the daughter of the first Chinese police chief in Los Angeles and is currently the basketball coach at the University of California, Fullerton. On the evening of the 3rd, someone found her and her 27-year-old fiancé Cash Lawrence slumped on the seats of a car in a parking lot in Irvine, California, and were shot to death. After investigation, the local police believed that the two deceased were shot and killed by the murderer from outside the car. It is certain that this was not a robbery as the property of the deceased was not robbed. The case is still under investigation.

According to the latest news, the police are currently hunting for the suspect, former Los Angeles police officer Christopher Jordan Dorner.

Not a robbery

A Chinese girl and her fiancé were shot and killed

According to reports, on the evening of February 3, local time, the police in Irvine, California received a call from a female passerby saying that at about 9 o'clock that night, when she was walking to her car on the top floor of a high-end apartment parking lot, she found a young man and woman lying in a car next to her. Police later found the body of 28-year-old Monica Kwan slumped in the front seat of the white Kia sedan, while her 27-year-old fiancé Cash Lawrence was slumped on the steering wheel of the driver's seat.

After preliminary investigation of the scene, the police initially determined that the two deceased persons were fatally shot from outside the car. The motive of the killer is currently unclear. The strange thing is that the nearby residents did not hear the gunfire when the incident occurred. Enjin, the Irvine police officer in charge of investigating the case, said: "The evidence at the scene leads us to believe that this was not a robbery and shooting case (because) their belongings were not robbed."

It is reported that the murdered couple lived in a high-end apartment near the parking lot where the crime occurred. Police speculated that the white Kia Optima sedan was the first scene where the two victims were killed. Residents living in the apartment said that more than a dozen police cars suddenly arrived on the evening of the 3rd, and they finally saw the ambulance leaving the scene without anyone on board. Irvine police towed the deceased Lawrence's car to the police station on the morning of the 4th for evidence collection. The five-story high-end apartment where the crime took place is tightly guarded. Security gates are installed at the entrances and exits of the parking lot. Vehicles must have a security code to enter. It looks safe on the outside. On the 5th, the autopsies of Monica Guan and Lawrence began.

Irvine Police Department spokesperson An Jian said that the police are still investigating the exact time of death. The police have initially ruled out the possibility that the deceased shot himself and are investigating the murder. The murderer and his motive for the crime are currently unclear, but the police refused to disclose further details.

Sighing

The couple who died were both former basketball players

Monica Guan, 28, and her fiancé Cash Lawrence both graduated from Concordia University and played for the school's basketball team. When Monica Guan graduated from high school, she set a record for the most three-pointers scored in a season. From 2003 to 2005, she played at California State University, Long Beach. From 2005 to 2007, she transferred to the Concordia University team and received a bachelor's degree in exercise science. From 2007 to 2009, she studied for a master's degree. After graduation, she served as an assistant basketball coach at Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California, and 2 years ago she served as an assistant basketball coach at the University of California, Fullerton.

Monica Guan's fiancé, Cash Lawrence, is now 27 years old. The two met when they were in college. At that time, they were both members of the Concordia University basketball team. Lawrence, who majored in business, had just completed police training before he was killed and started working as a security guard at the University of Southern California. Security Director John Thomas said, "Because of his work, the USC community has become safer and our department is better." Monica Kwan's father, Kwan Land, has been serving in the Los Angeles Police Department. He was once the first Chinese-American sergeant in the Los Angeles Police Department. In 2002, he was appointed as the chief of police of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

After the sad news of Monica Guan's tragic murder reached the campus of Fullerton State University on the 4th, players and coaches were shocked. Many people found it unbelievable that a double murder would occur in Irvine, which has always had good security. Fullerton State University President Garcia issued a statement on the morning of the 4th, saying that the accidental murder of Monica Guan made all the teachers and students of the school sad and worried. The school will fully support her family during this difficult period and provide psychological counseling to the players and coaches of the athletic department.

Fullerton State University Athletic Department Director Donald Donavan and women's basketball team head coach Marcia Foster held a press conference on campus. Foster held back his grief and said: "Our sadness is indescribable in words. It is an honor for the girls on the team to work with this sunny and enthusiastic woman. Not long ago, everyone paid tribute to Monica. We gathered together to celebrate the engagement, but we didn’t expect that something happened to her at such a young age. The women’s basketball circle lost a bright light, and I also lost my best working partner.”
