People who like to download American dramas and movies should be on alert. Starting from the 12th, major Internet service providers will strengthen monitoring of online download piracy, issue warnings to users who download illegally, and even reduce network speeds or even suspend services and other punitive measures.
The National Video Industry Federation will join forces with various Internet service providers to jointly fight against piracy from the 12th. Including Verizon, Time Warner, etc. Anti-piracy includes music, movies, software, etc. According to the agreement between the federation and the operators, each operator must set up an automatic tracking system based on its own network structure and establish a database of illegal downloading users.
For users who are found to have downloaded illegally, the network service provider will first send one or two warning letters to warn the user that the illegal downloading behavior has been discovered and ask them to delete it. If the user continues with the download, they will receive a confirmation letter confirming that they indeed received the first two warnings. If users still go their own way, they may be punished by reducing network speed or even suspending service.
Currently, the more popular online download tools among Chinese include eDonkey, BT and Thunder. Network engineer Li Aoran said that the characteristic of these online download tools is that they are downloading and uploading at the same time, which may incur double punishment, so be careful when downloading.
Regarding watching movies on online video websites, Li Aoran said that if you use a browser to watch videos, such as YouTube, mainland China's Tudou, Youku and other websites, there is no problem at all, because most videos have copyrights and there is no downloading behavior when watching. For some video viewing software, such as PPS, Fengxing, etc., the principle is the same as BT, but it only downloads in the background, and it is not a complete download. It is unknown whether this behavior is illegal downloading, but the responsibility may usually lie with the software provider.
Whether AT&T, the network provider commonly used in Chinese areas, will also join this action is still uncertain. As of press time, the reporter has not received a reply from AT&T.
