Phoenix has a taste of monsoon activity Thursday night, but is checking for a strong heat increase.
The city of Phoenix broke a temperature record just after 2 p.m., when it reached 116 degrees. This broke the previous record of 115 on July 7, 1970.
But this is not the highest temperature of the day. The surface temperature reached 117 degrees at 4 p.m. and rose to 118 degrees before 5 p.m. A new high temperature date has been established in Phoenix, the National Weather Service said. We have now set a new heat record. It's 118F today in Phoenix. Breaking the old record of 115F in 1905, this record has stood for 112 years as of this year.
