The Asian population in the United States surged by 46% in 10 years. A report jointly released by Asian-American organizations last Wednesday showed that the Asian population grew rapidly in the 10 years from 2000 to 2010, with an increase of 46%. The increase in the Asian population is not limited to coastal areas such as California and New York. It has more than doubled in Nevada in the southwestern United States and increased by 95% in Arizona. The Asian population in Texas has grown by 72%, totaling more than 1.1 million people, which is larger than the Asian population in Hawaii. Several factors have contributed to the rapid growth of the Asian population in some communities in the United States: first, immigrants coming to work there, second, new immigrants seeking to reunite with family members in the United States, and third, descendants of their parents who immigrated here decades ago. California, New York and Hawaii are still areas where Asians gather. Many Asian Americans in these areas participate in local affairs, making it easier for Asians to integrate into society. Neighborhoods where it was not common to see Asian Americans before will now find Asian Americans not just foreigners living in Los Angeles or New York's Chinatown, but living nearby. Here are the top three states with the largest number of Asian Americans: California: 5.6 million; New York: 1.5 million; Texas: 1.1 million. The top three states with the highest Asian American population growth from 2000 to 2010: Nevada: 116% to 242,916; Arizona: 95% to 230,907; North Carolina: 85% to 252,585.
