Wu Guanzhong's "Lion Grove" was sold for 115 million, setting a record for modern and contemporary art. Poly Auction's "Modern and Contemporary Chinese Art Night Show: Important Paintings by Wu Guanzhong" special event was held in Beijing on the evening of the 3rd. Wu Guanzhong's "Lion Grove" was sold for 115 million yuan, setting a new record for Chinese modern and contemporary art. This is also the latest auction record for the painter's personal works. All 25 works in this auction were sold, with one auction exceeding RMB 10 million and 14 other auctions exceeding RMB 10 million, with a total transaction volume of RMB 500 million. These works come from more than ten collectors around the world, which not only reflects the global recognition of Wu Guanzhong's art, but also represents the highest level of the painter. Measuring 144cm x 97cm, "Lion Grove" is the largest private work among Wu Guan's dot and line color series. The auction opened with an auction price of 50 million yuan. After dozens of rounds of competition, it finally sold for 100 million yuan. The transaction amount including commissions reached 115 million yuan, setting a new auction record for Chinese modern and contemporary art. Wu Guanzhong's early oil painting "Hibiscus" was sold for 63.25 million yuan. Another Jiangnan-themed masterpiece "Two Swallows" was sold for 46 million yuan. "Qingdao" depicting the scenery of Qingdao was sold for 40.25 million yuan. The landscape masterpiece "Yulong Mountain" changed hands for 34.5 million yuan. The price of "Cliff" in the same series as "Jiaohe Ancient City" was 29.9 million yuan. In addition, works with different themes such as "Tree and Cow", "Paddy Field in the Mountains", "Hong Kong Central Night Scene", "Fish Joy in Jiangnan Garden", "Two Pines", "Seaside Stone", "Jokhang Temple", "Taihu Lake Boat", etc. were all sold for prices exceeding tens of millions. Zhao Xu, executive director of Beijing Poly Auction, said that after this special auction, Wu Guanzhong became the first modern and contemporary artist in mainland China to have a single auction item exceed 100 million, which will surely set off a new wave of Chinese modern and contemporary art.
